Did You Know? The easiest way you can support an author is by posting a review of their book.
I don’t even mean that you should have a social media account dedicated to reviews, I mean just popping onto the website of a bookseller or review platform and posting just a few words about the book there.
I really don’t enjoy writing reviews at all; I want to talk about the book, but when I sit down to write about it, words fail me. Hence why I largely turned this blog over to guests bloggers. Even the reviews I include in the HEA Canada newsletter are short and sweet (and/or spicy).
But I do understand how valuable a positive review can be, even if it’s just a few words, and so I persevere to leave at least a single-sentence review somewhere for every book I have enjoyed reading.
And since I understand the reach of a positive review, I’ve curated the following list of brief, happy notes that you are welcome to copy and paste.
Hot Tip: You do not have to recap the book. Thanks, I hate it. Just award the book however many stars you want, and then paste one of the phrases from the suggestions below.
Hotter Tip: If you can put something in your review that proves you are actually talking about that specific book, you will make the review epically stronger. E.g. “I loved Beauty and Beast’s love story!”
Where should you post your review?
Wherever. I head over to Kobo’s website because that’s where I buy most of my books from. I don’t use GR, it overwhelms me, but I’ve seen lots of short-and-sweet reviews posted there so don’t be shy if you have a GR account! If you have social media, snap a quick photo of the book (or the cover screen on your ereader) and post it with your single sentence. That still counts!

Go ahead and copy and paste this list into the notes app on your phone right now so they’re ready to go when you get to The End.

Where are the copy + paste reviews for books you don’t like? Well, I’ve only ever reviewed a book I didn’t like once, and it was because it was a romance with SA in it that the author played off as consensual and I was having none of that. Otherwise, I just don’t review the book if I didn’t like it. I don’t have time for that.
