Ainsley Booth and Sadie Haller: Frisky Beavers series Prime Minister; Doctor Bad Boy; Full Mountie; Mister Hat Trick
Dear Reader,
This series is kinky, hot, deep-dives into divisive topics, and still manages to be a book hug every single time. And it’s set largely in Ottawa, Ontario! I was in one heck of a reading rut at the beginning of 2022 and I had the Frisky Beavers on hand as a break-glass-in-case-of-reading-emergency, and there I was, surrounded by books with “nothing to read”.
The depth of emotion woven throughout this series staggers me. I was apprehensive about a politically-centred Romance, which is why these books were the emergency-read kind, but I also needed to read something totally different than my usual. Handled with care at every plot point. And if you still need proof that consent is sexy, here ya go.
Prime Minster: You’ve got your age gap, workplace romance, a fiery newish adult in Ellie who knows what she wants and goes for it, and a leader with the weight of ten provinces and three territories on his shoulders. WhAt CoUlD gO wRoNg? LOL! Gavin for PM, that’s all I’m saying.
Doctor Bad Boy: This book is special to me because it takes some plot points that I generally don’t lean in to and made me love the story anyway. Did I skim through some sex scenes in which Max and Violet go far out of my comfort zone, leaving me more interested in the conversation than the choreography? Yes, but I do that with a lot of books, and shows (especially scenes of musical serenades because I have secondhand cringe anxiety).
Full Mountie: Be still my heart! The TENDERNESS! I’m sure you thought I was going to say the passion or the sex, and those are also to be celebrated, but that’s not what made me hole up with this book like nothing else existed. Full Mountie had me wrapped up in it from the start, possibly because I’d fallen in love with Lachlan and Beth previously in the series, but certainly because this book was so full of gentleness and kindness and WORDS. I love words so much. Lachlan, Beth and Hugh are absolute fire, as much for the love amongst this trio as well as the sex scenes.
Mister Hat Trick: Hockey Romance! I loved both Tate and Sasha upon meeting them in the series, and the fact they hook up and then some is a pleasure for all. We leave Ottawa in this book and travel to Vancouver with a short stop in NYC as well, and why I remember that says something, again, about how much I enjoy and appreciate the storytelling of this series—of Ainsley Booth and Sadie Haller’s writing on the whole. It’s wintery, it’s a little Christmasy, it’s a whole lotta hot and bothered and passionate in all the best ways.
Don’t wait like I did to break the glass on this series if you haven’t already.
Love and beavertails (the pastry),
Catherine
